IN one of the last events before the lockdown, Kendal Bowmen Archery Club held their 42nd Portsmouth Indoor Tournament at Queen Katherine School.

Archers from across the country competed in an event judged by Tony Tideswell and Craig Benson.

There were four categories for males and females: Recurve, Longbow, Compound and Barebow, while there were three extra categories for the junior members which saw them compete for the Recurve and Barebow awards as well as the Novice award.

After a competitive day, David Poole from Vickers Archery Club finished top of the Gents Recurve after claiming a high score of 573 and 34 golds, while Dave Ball from Chorley Bowman Archery and Les Day from Thirsk finished second and third.

Andrea Clarke who also plays for Vickers Archery Club claimed the highest score in the Ladies Recurve with 553 and a total of 25 golds.

David Whitham and Katrina Horton both picked up the highest scores in the respective Gents and Ladies Longbow Competition, while Jamie Hunter and Allison McCullock from Beacon Archers collected the most points in the Gents and Ladies Compound competition.

There was success for Kendal Bowman Archery Club in the Long Barebow after Chris Naylor finished with a score of 520, while both Marc Dellerbra and Michael Naylor who also play for Kendal claimed third and fourth place respectively. Junior member Leon Bissland did well in the Junior Barebow and Junior Novice competition with a score of 183, while Naomi Carter also did the club proud with second place in the Junior Barebow finishing with 303.
