THERE was a 'disappointing' and 'frustrating' increase in visitors to the Yorkshire Dales at the weekend, according to mountain rescuers.
A statement on the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) Facebook page said there had even been people travelling to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
Jonty Rhodes, a CRO team member who lives in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, said he saw a 'stream' of people going to climb Pen-y-ghent on his daily exercise.
He spoke to some of these walkers, reminding them that paramedics were stretched and asking them to choose a lower-level walk.
He said some heeded the advice, while others said they would "maybe take notice" next time.
"It will still be here when this is all finished," added Mr Rhodes. "Come and see us when this is all done and dusted."
