WHO has the most-watched webcam in Cumbria?
As Cumbrians and tourists are denied the chance to visit their favourite places in the Lake District, it seems that webcam viewing figures are surging as people refuse to miss out on their favourite places.
Last week, staff at Windermere Lake Cruises revealed that views for their webcams over a four-week period had risen by 33% when compared to last year.
But it seems the most popular webcam in the county – unless anyone can claim to have better figures – is one in Keswick.
The Visit Cumbria webcam in the centre of Keswick Market Square received 104,114 unique views in the same period that all three of the Windermere webcams together received just under 65,000 views. The Keswick webcam was only installed in June 2019.
A spokesperson for Visit Cumbria said: “I wonder if visitors are viewing in awe of the emptiness of Keswick or nostalgia for happier times, and part of their planning to return after the lockdown. But with an average viewing time of 4:48 minutes per visitor it seems that, whatever the visitor is watching, it’s clearly quite spellbinding.”
