Here's some interesting info about our roos for you lovely people!

So, we remain visitor-less but there’s still plenty going on here at Safari Zoo!

We managed to get two fabulous photos of two of our roo residents - Rufus and Damien, earlier this week and, whilst obviously these guys are absolute beauties, it got us wondering how the keepers tell who is who when they are happily hopping around their home in our World Wide Safari.

Now, our long-seasoned keepers really can do this by sight, especially with our older roos, but for new keepers and for helping to identify new roos, we have a clever system.

Well, as you will see on the photo of our Damien that his ear looks like it has a chunk out of it, which it does but this is not an injury, this is kangaroo notching which is done when the roos are very young and is completely harmless.

Where the notch sits on the ear gives us the identity of the roo in question! How very clever!

For those who follow us on social media (for those who don’t, a big tut tut!) you will have no doubt caught our live sessions with Karen, Kim, Michael, Anna and appearances from keepers Jonah, Adam, Alex, Georgia, and Erica as we continue to bring the zoo to you!

So far we’ve joined the keepers in their routines, we’ve helped to feed the residents, we’ve had close encounters of the furry kind with many residents too - all good fun and all to keep you updated on what’s going on when the doors are closed to the public.

Give that like button a click and catch up with our lives daily, you won’t regret it.
