Cumbrian artists are encouraged to enter for the New Light Prize Exhibition before the deadline at the end of this month.

The winner will claim a £10,000 prize and take part in a prestigious touring exhibition which will visit three of the North’s most prestigious venues: Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle; Scarborough Art Gallery and The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle as well as an exhibition in the cultural heart of London, at the Bankside Gallery.

This 5th biennial New Light Prize Exhibition has attracted an impressive line-up of judges: contemporary printmaker and Royal Academician Anne Desmet; renowned art critic, writer and editor of the RA Magazine, Sam Phillips; Curator of Art at Huddersfield Art Gallery, Grant Scanlan and founder of the New Light Prize Exhibition, Annette Petchey.

It is open to artists born, based or who have studied in the North of England. This year’s awards include a £10,000 Valeria Sykes Prize, the Saul Hay Emerging Artist Award, a Patron’s Choice Award of £2,500 and The Zillah Bell Printmakers’ Prize amongst others.
