FIVE men have been arrested in relation to an incident involving a street brawl in Lancaster, leaving detectives appealing for witnesses.

A collision took place at around 5.15pm on Sunday, involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a white transit van on Alexandra Road in the Skerton area.

After the collision, a group of up to 10 people gathered and began fighting, with some using knives, bottles and a sledgehammer.

Also found close to the scene were broken bottles, metal poles and a half full uncapped ammonia container.

When officers arrived, the majority of the group had gone, however, two males present at the scene had facial injuries.

DI Kathryn Riley from Lancaster CID, said: "This group showed blatant disregard not just for each other, but for those living in the area by basically fighting in the middle of the street in full view of people in the vicinity.

"We are still piecing together exactly what happened and the part that each person involved played.

"So, it is really important that anyone with any CCTV or dash cam footage of this melee speaks to us.

"Similarly, if you filmed it on your phone, please come forward."

The men arrested were aged 21, 24, 25 and 30 from Lancaster - as well as a 33-year-old man from Carnforth.

The 25-year-old remains in police custody whilst the others have been bailed pending early enquiries until early June.
