SPORTS clubs offering one of the nation’s favourite pastimes will be reopening under strict rules and regulations in response to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s most recent speech on easing the Covid 19 lockdown.

Since the Government announced its plans to scale back the lockdown in the coming months, golf clubs are either open or will be opening very soon.

Carus Green Golf Course director Graham Curtin made a statement on the club's Facebook page in response to the Prime Minister’s speech.

Graham said: “In line with tonight’s government announcement, we are pleased to say we will be opening Carus Green Golf Course at 8am on Wednesday May 13, 2020.

“We will send out a detailed email and social media message tomorrow after the various golf industry bodies have ironed out the remaining issues.

“At this point we should be able to then report with more clarity.”

As of today, Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, Casterton, Ulverston and Silverdale golf clubs are all reopening.

Grange Over Sands Golf Club is scheduled to reopen this coming Wednesday.

All clubs are still enforcing strict social distancing rules to ensure that all members of the public remain safe and stay within the guidelines of the government and social distancing.

Kirkby Lonsdale golf club pro John Twissell said: “The club house will remain closed, but the course is now open, it has been tended to by our green staff over the weeks.

“The driving range will be open from Thursday onwards as well.

“It looks great, the weather is crazy good so it’s great to see golfers back on the course.

“We are only allowing members in twos at this time but will be accepting visitors on Friday onwards.

“We have been sent guidelines from the England Golf Association which I think most clubs will be following.

“Social distancing is the main priority which on the course itself will be easy to do.

“It’s been fifty plus days so it’s great to see people back here”.

England Golf has made an official statement in response to the Prime Minister’s speech addressing how golf clubs can continue in the next few months.

“The UK Government has today provided clarification on outdoor recreation and rules on social distancing in England.

“These will affect how golf can be played from Wednesday 13 May and, in particular, the configuration of groupings on a golf course.

“Under new government rules released on 11 May, the following groupings will be permitted upon resumption of play:

“Individuals playing golf on their own. Two-balls comprising of individuals from different households.

“At the discretion of the golf club, members of the same household playing in two, three or four-balls.

Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to at all times.”

Clubs houses will remain closed.
