MORE than 300 people have now been discharged from University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) hospitals after having been treated for Coronavirus (Covid-19), the trust has announced.

This afternoon, UHMBT said in an update shared on its social media channels: "So far, 317 people have been discharged from our hospitals across Morecambe Bay after being treated for coronavirus. Huge huge thank you to all of our #TeamUHMBT colleagues who are working so tirelessly to make this happen".

The announcement comes as both Cumbria hospital trusts reported no new deaths at its health centres over the past 24 hours.

UHMBT has recorded no new deaths for almost a week, according to health service figures.

The last Covid-19 death recorded at UHMBT hospitals - which include Furness General, Westmorland General and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary - was on Tuesday May 12.

Meanwhile, no new deaths were recorded at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - which runs Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and Whitehaven’s West Cumberland Hospital - since Saturday.

According to NHS statistics, the North West remains the region with the second-highest number of Covid-19-related deaths - with the Midlands and the North-East & Yorkshire with the joint highest total over the past 24 hours.

Nationally, a further 122 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 are reported to have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,739.

When added to care home death numbers, the figure for the UK is thought to be closer to 40,000.

Commenting on the news of the new recorded deaths, NHS England said: "Patients were aged between 47 and 100 years old.

"Seven of the 122 patients (aged between 50 and 85) had no known underlying health condition [sic].

"Their families have been informed."
