THE household waste recycling centre at Grange-over-Sands is set to reopen next Thursday (May 28) with a booking system in place.

A Cumbria County Council (CCC) spokesman said the council closed the site last Friday due to 'the number of people trying to access the site meaning that maintaining safe social distancing was proving to be extremely difficult.'

Cllr Celia Tibble, CCC's cabinet member for the environment, thanked members of the public for their 'patience' when visiting recycling centres, and said: "On the whole all our sites have coped well with the demand, with the exception of Grange, whose access road was unable to cope with the volume of traffic.

"Keeping staff and the public safe is our absolute priority and the new booking system will ensure this is maintained.”

People wishing to use the recycling centre at Grange can book a slot by calling 0300 003 1118 between 9am and 5pm two days ahead of their visit. Those who do not have a booking will not be able to access the site.
