RESIDENTS of Appleby were treated to an exciting appearance by Spiderman himself during the Thursday night clap.

The masked vigilante appeared during the weekly NHS clap on orchard place estate in Appleby.

Local resident Melanie Sale said: “People absolutely loved this.

“My little three-year-old boy was singing the Avengers theme tune all night.

“He is still asking and hoping that Spidey will come back for the next Thursday night.

“He has also requested that Hulk joins him this Thursday too.

“Everyone on our street thought it was a lovely gesture and a great deal of fun.”

“It was especially nice for the kids who saw him. It’s a treat for them since they have not seen their friends for so long.”

Meanwhile, the organiser behind the weekly 'Clap for Carers' event has said tonight's show of support should be the last.

Annemarie Plas, a Dutch national living in South London, said she was 'overwhelmed' by the support for the cacophonous ritual, but said it was better to stop when it was at 'its peak'.

“Without getting too political, I share some of the opinions that some people have about it becoming politicised. I think the narrative is starting to change and I don’t want the clap to be negative."
