The creator of a Cumbrian gin brand says he is delighted it has been given special recognition by a global guide to the spirit.

Wolftown Gin has been chosen to be gin of the week this week by the Gin Guide - an online independent guide to gins and distilleries around the world.

Founder John McKeown, who launched the product at Ulverston's Dickensian Festival in November last year, said he was happy it had attracted such positive attention in so short a time.

"The Gin Guide is world renowned as an authority on gin, with over 84,000 Instagram followers, over 17,000 Twitter followers and 8,400 Facebook fans, so to be featured this way is great for exposure," he said.

"We are delighted to be showcased on the front of the Gin Guide’s website and all of their social media platforms.

"This and the favourable review we received from Paul Jackson, the founder of the Gin Guide, after only being in business since the end of 2019, is all the validation we could wish for."

He said orders were coming in from all over the world for the gin.

Despite the coronavirus shutdown, he said Gillam's Tearooms, in Ulverston, had been including it in their delivery service as had The Sun Inn.
