THE rate of deaths in Cumbrian care homes coming as a result of Coronavirus (Covid-19) appears to be falling, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The new ONS numbers show 164 deaths with Covid-19 in care homes in the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire in the week up to May 22 - a fall of 225 on the previous week’s statistics.
1,636 care home deaths were registered across the North West during this week - one o the highest regional death tolls in England. In the north of England, County Durham now has the highest levels of Covid-19 deaths in care homes.
Overall, 1,373 people have died from Covid-19 in the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire’s care homes since the start of the pandemic
