NO further deaths due to coronavirus have been recorded at our local hospitals trust since June 5.

The latest figures from Public Health England, correct up until 5pm on June 9, showed no Covid-related deaths at trust hospitals - which includes Westmorland General in Kendal - on June 9, 8, 7 and 6.

There was one death recorded on June 5 and one on June 3.

There have been 164 deaths in total from coronavirus at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust hospitals.

In the UK, 109 more daily fatalities were reported on Wednesday, the lowest increase on a Wednesday since the week before lockdown began.

England reported 88 new deaths, Scotland had 12, Wales recorded nine and Northern Ireland had no new deaths for the fourth consecutive day.

As we went to press, Department of Health bosses had yet to post the final daily toll, which is often much higher because it takes into account deaths in settings other than in hospital.

There have been now more than 7m infections globally.
