AT THE June parish council online meeting the chairman Cllr Alan Wren announced that Jane Hague and Lesley Bailey had been elected by council ballot and would be co-opted as members of the parish council.

The chairman noted that it was very pleasing to have had such strong candidates put their names forward to serve on the council and wanted to record the councils thanks to them all.

Having been asked by SLDC to recommend a name for the new Boon Town development two possibilities were considered: Meadow Close and Smiddy Croft.

It was agreed that Smiddy Croft with its connection to the historic name for the field was more appropriate and would be recommended.

The council has now received £7946 from the Community Infrastructure Levy and was hopeful that further payments might accrue

in due course.

ALTHOUGH some dwellings on Main St have been connected to B4RN further progress in the village has come to a halt.

Finally, the new plaque remembering further WW1 soldiers has now been installed in St James' church.

A fairly lengthy discussion took place on the progress of the Conservation Scheme. It was noted that there is some work still outstanding and this is being addressed, including the state of some of the cobbles and the loose lime debris.

OF SOME concern was the use of the Square, particularly the West side for car parking.

The council hoped that residents would appreciate that the project had been part of a village conservation and heritage enhancement scheme and not for extra car parking. Specifically, it was pointed out that is against local bylaws to park on the pavement.

Furthermore, the council would put a notice in Burton News noting some of the issues and proposing that future use and status of the Square become an agenda item in the autumn, including its possible use as a community space.

CHURCH Bank Gardens remains an area of unresolved issues and no progress has as yet been made in resolving them.

This item would remain on the Action Plan.

THE VILLAGE Community Group is still busy helping those residents affected by lock down or other restrictions and will continue for the present.

Other announcements were that Dalton Lane is due for resurfacing sometime, the lengths man has been keeping the verges and other environs tidy and it was noted that some of the benches in the village needed repair.

THE NEXT parish council meeting will be on Thursday July 16 when it is hoped the venue will be the Memorial Hall.
