MOTORISTS travelling from West Cumbria to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary have been warned about upcoming roadworks.
Access to the hospital will be affected when utility firm Northern Gas Networks starts a six-week project on July 27 to upgrade its supply network.
There will be a road closure on Church Road and Newton Road. It will start on the above date for three weeks and a diversion via Wigton Road will be in place.
Newtown Road will also be closed at Caldcotes, by the McVitie’s factory, with no access to the infirmary – cars will be diverted onto Wigton Road, the bypass, and then to the roundabout of Newtown Road.
For vehicles leaving the hospital there will be a single lane open, to access Caldcotes and the roundabout.
There will also be a road closure on Wigton Road, diversions will be in place.
Richie Manuel, business operational leader for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We appreciate nobody likes roadworks, but this work is crucial to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas for homes and businesses in the future.”
