PROPOSALS to upgrade the platforms and lighting at Carlisle Citadel railway station have been lodged.
Plans were submitted to the city council on June 24 by Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd.
It includes resurfacing platforms with Tarmac and the replacement of lighting with “LED energy-efficient luminaires”.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “If approved by planners, the proposed multi-million-pound project would see lighting and surfaces on platforms upgraded from May 2021.
"Passengers would be able to access a normal train service throughout the major improvement work.”
The station is Grade II listed and according to the Heritage Statement: “It is considered that the works proposed are respectful to the character and appearance of the structure.
“This will be done in a manner that is respectful to the heritage significance of the site.”
