THE Lake District has been named one of Britain’s top ‘staycation’ hotspots post-lockdown.
A recent survey revealed that pent-up demand will see UK households spending an average of £960 each on domestic breaks this year, with more than half of Brits having saved money during lockdown and 36% planning to put some of it towards holidaying at home.
The Lake District came out as the second-most popular staycation destination in the poll (receiving 14 per cent of the votes), surpassed only by Cornwall (16 per cent).
Managing director of Cumbria Tourism, Gill Haigh, said: “We have so much to celebrate and to be proud of here in Cumbria this summer, autumn and into the winter. We’ve got more Michelin stars than anywhere north of London, two World Heritage Sites and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”
