The family of William Derek Moore have paid the best possible tribute by raising awareness of the disease that ultimately led to his death, aged 67.

Mr Moore died on June 19 at Royal Lancaster Infirmary with his family by his side after a six-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

In just over a week, a JustGiving page set up by his son Adrian has surpassed the £1,500 target that was set and had raised close to £1,700 as of Wednesday evening for the charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The family will keep the page open and use it for various sponsored events they intend to take part in remembrance of Mr Moore, a proprietor of the Sutherlands and Spinnery restaurants in Bowness and the Castle Dairy in Kendal.

He is survived by his wife Jean, children Adrian and Ashleigh and four grandchildren.
