RESCUERS were called out to the report of a man falling 50 feet at a Lake District crag and suffering a leg injury.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) was called out to the incident at Gill Cove Crag, near Coniston, at around 1.40pm on Saturday. Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue (LAMRT) team also attended.
Attempts to contact the people who were with the casualty proved unsuccessful. An air ambulance was dispatched from Langwathby and the Coastguard was put on standby.
A CMRT spokesman said rescuers took the path along the western edge of Levers Water in order to reach the injured man.
The spokesman said: "His injuries were not as traumatic as previously reported so the helicopters were stood down and a land ambulance was requested instead."
The casualty was treated for his injuries before being stretchered - 'with difficulty' - to a waiting team vehicle for transfer to an ambulance.
The kit and equipment used was then either put into quarantine or sterilised.
