PUBLIC houses are expected to continue their staggered openings this week after the easing of the lockdown around social distancing.

Currently, at least 96 out of the 210 pubs and clubs in Cumbria have opened their doors this week or will be opening soon.

Many pubs and bars chose to stagger their openings after July 4 to better cope with the wave of customers returning from lockdown.

Westmorland Camra pubs officer Caroline Schwaller said: “The pubs around Kendal and the Westmorland area, some of them have opened on the fourth but quite a few of them are staggering their openings from the sixth onwards.”

One of the pubs is Kendal’s Barrel House which will be re-opening on July 9 at 4pm.

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Brigsteer has reopened since Wednesday.

Kirkby Lonsdale will also see staggered opening dates for some of its local pubs.

The Sun Hotel is expected to open on July 12, whereas the Kings Arm Hotels will not open until July 24.

The Snooty Fox was reopen on Monday, however, will not be able to return to serving food until July 11.

They will also only offer accommodation after July 13.

Businesses in Ambleside such as the Wateredge Inn, the Lily Bar, the Unicorn and the Golden Rule have all been able to reopen.
