A 71-YEAR-old man was rescued from Scafell Pike after falling and injuring his hip and ribs.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) was called out to the incident on Thursday at around 5.15pm.
A KMRT spokesman said the man had reached the summit of the mountain but 'took a tumble' while descending. He was able to carry on walking down the corridor route for a time but the pace eventually became 'too slow and the pain too great to continue'.
The casualty was assessed by team members and given pain relief.
Taking into account the nature of the incident and the remote location, an air ambulance was called. A landing spot was found above Sty Head Tarn.
The casualty was transported to the helicopter before being taken to Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness.
