A HOMELESS Carlisle man has been banned from virtually every shop in Carlisle and Penrith after he admitted stealing food worth almost £20 from a McColls store.

John Anthony Lowe, 42, who gave his address in court as the city’s John Street Hostel, admitted stealing from McColls in Cumwhinton Road in Carlisle on July 8.

He took food worth £19.49. Magistrates redrafted his existing Criminal Behaviour Order to make it tougher.

The revised order now includes all the shops belonging to the Penrith Shopwatch Scheme.

Magistrates also fined the defendant £90, with a £34 victim surcharge, and an ordered that Lowe must pay compensation for he food he stole. He must also pay £85 prosecution costs.

The shops the defendant is barred from entering under his existing criminal behaviour order already included all Carlisle’s major supermarkets, as well as Carlisle Library.

The extensive list also included Carlisle’s Market Hall, and the shops in the Lanes Shopping Centre, such as Next, and H&M.

The list also includes stores such as Jack & Jones, Matalan, Monsoon, McDonalds in Scotch Street, B&M in English St, Next (Kingstown), LidI, Dunelm, B&M at St Nicholas Gate, Celebrations, Clintons, Sainsbury, Chloe’s Closet, Age UK, International Collections, Sports Direct, Debenhams, Next Kids, Ann Summers, Body Shop, New Look, Marks & Spencer, TK Maxx, Wilko, Top Shop, Top Man, Poundland in Scotch St, River Island, House of Fraser, Hospice at Home Castle Street, Home Bargains; Superdrug, Cotswold, Footasylum, Primark, Gift Company, Carlisle and Eden Mind Lowther Street, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, and WH Smith.

Added to the list last week were scores of shops in Penrith.

These include the Angel Lane Chip Shop, Arcade Pet Stores, Argos, Arragons Cycle Centre, B&M Bargains, Bargain Booze and King St News Basecamp, Beckside Books, Booths Supermarket, Boots Chemist, Burton Menswear, Carphone Warehouse, Coy Boutique, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Greys Jewellers, Halfords, Holland & Barrett, J&J Graham, M&Co, M&S, Natures Health Store, O2 Phone Shop, Penrith Outdoors, Sainsburys, Salvation Army, Sam Scott’s, and The Spar.
