THE boss of Asda has shared an update on what rules will be in place to keep shoppers and staff safe as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

In an email to customers, CEO of Asda Roger Burnley outlined the safety measures in stores, and detailed what the company is doing to look after its employees.

It also added that the supermarket chain will 'respect' new government guidance which requires all shoppers to wear face masks.

Shoppers across England will have to wear a face covering from July 24 - or they could risk a £100 fine.

Mr Burnley said: "As people gradually return to their pre-Covid routines, we are starting to see more regular shopping patterns, which means stores are easy to access throughout the day.

"However, keeping customers and colleagues safe has been our number one priority throughout lockdown and our commitment to safety remains unchanged as social distancing measures are gradually eased.

"As these new changes are implemented, I want to reassure all our customers – no matter where you shop with us – that we will respect the guidelines."
