RESCUERS were called after a 71-year-old man was 'taken ill' at a Yorkshire Dales beauty spot.

The Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) attended the incident at around 2.40pm yesterday.

A CRO spokesman said: "A visitor was taken ill at the top of the steps to the top of Malham Cove.

"As team members and local Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) paramedics arrived, other YAS paramedics were helping him into their air ambulance for the flight to hospital.

"The cove top was extremely busy with visitors so, before standing down, team members cleared an area around the aircraft for its safe departure to hospital."
