THE PUBLIC are being urged to help animals stay cool in hot weather.
Cumbria Police has joined the RSPCA in urging dog owners to keep their pet cool in hot weather. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "With temperatures set to rise, keep your dog safe this Summer. Never leave your dog in the car on a hot day."
If a dog is seen in distress in a car during hot weather, the public are asked to call 999.
The RSPCA has advised the public against leaving animals in hot cars, conservatories, outbuildings or caravans. Temperatures can rise to 47 degrees in these environments which can be deadly for pets.
"You can also keep your pets safe by using a pet-safe sun cream on exposed parts of your pet's skin and of course, by providing plenty of access to shade and fresh water."
