A MAN has narrowly avoided being jailed after admitting assaulting his partner.

A court heard Christopher Crawford used his foot to attack Rachel Ellison at their home in Bowness on March 6 this year.

The 28-year-old admitted one charge of assault when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates Court in Barrow. He was committed to prison for 10 weeks, but magistrates decided to suspend the sentence for two years.

Magistrates said the reasons for suspending the sentence were; lack of relevant previous convictions and domestic circumstances including the loss of employment and the impact it has had on the family. Crawford, of Elizabeth Street, Salford, must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within a year and was told to pay a total of £207 in costs and surcharges.
