Checking books out of libraries will be a piece of cake with the latest county service.
In a bid to keep libraries safe and running smoothly, Cumbria County Council is set to launch its Select and Collect service – from tomorrow (August 4).
With Carlisle, Penrith, Whitehaven, Workington, Kendal and Barrow's libraries reopening from next week, Select and Collect users will have earlier access to the library, with members able to request up to six books to check out before libraries officially open.
Users can then collect their new reads in a given time-slot, and are free to enjoy them for up to three weeks.
Councillor Deborah Earl, of public health and community services, said: “We know how much people value our library services and we’re working hard to recommence much loved services and launch new ones, like Select and Collect.
“The service is similar to how you might click and collect your shopping and operates in addition to our digital library services so there should be something for all of our members.
"From August 10, I’m pleased to say we will have our six main branches reopened, plus Select & Collect, home delivery and online services all running.”
Non-members can also take part by simply calling their local library and signing up.
