A LAKE District hotel is to receive a multi-million-pound investment that will be used to extend the hotel and create a luxury spa.

The extension at The Swan, Newby Bridge, will house 30 additional bedrooms.

The hotel is recruiting in order to fill 20 full- and part-time jobs that will be created by the development. It also plans to launch an apprenticeship programme.

James Houlston, managing director of BH Group, which owns the hotel and is behind the £7m investment, said: “The Swan is an established favourite in the Lakes - this investment really gives us the opportunity to build on its success so it can reach its full potential as a world-class spa resort.

“The proposed extension will really take the hotel to the next level, so that we can deliver that ultimate top-class, luxury experience.”

The new spa facility, which will be a ‘children-free’ zone, will include a hydrotherapy pool, thermal rooms, relaxation areas and treatment rooms.

A hotel spokesman said the facility would also house a café serving cake, champagne and other refreshments. The existing swimming pool at the hotel will remain open.

The interior of the extension is being designed by Fiona Parke of Berkshire-based company Johnston Parke Interiors.

Sarah Gibbs, managing director of The Swan, said: “We can’t wait for the renovations to get under way, we have some incredible plans and I think guests are going to be blown away when we get to reveal it all next year.

“The Lake District is already one of the most popular destinations in the UK and there’s definitely a growing market for a luxury spa resort here, and we’re more than happy to be the ones that can offer this.

“We have a fantastic team here and we are excited to grow it alongside these developments.”

The work to develop the hotel is set to be completed by summer of next year.
