LEGENDARY mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington has created a short film with words of advice for those struggling in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In the video, Sir Chris shares his thoughts and advice about dealing with lockdown, from the comfort of his home in Cumbria.

Sir Chris has been climbing for over six decades all around the world, and his career has even included nineteen expeditions to the Himalayas, including four to Mount Everest.

In the short video he uses the analogy of being stuck in a tent for an extended time during an expedition.

He said: "When you are stuck there - really well stuck in a tent or an ice cave - for several days with absolutely nothing to do, I think I just let it flow, you just do.

"And I think that's what we've all got to do. And you can then in that period, you can think of all the nice things that you would like to be doing."

He also savoured his favourite memories of a past trip to Suilven in the Highlands.

The mountaineer and Chairman of UK outdoor brand Berghaus wants to stress to the public that the hills and mountains will still be there for the public to enjoy after lockdown, and is encouraging everyone to follow the guidelines set by the government so that everyone can return to what they love doing.
