The town centre, like many other high streets across the UK, has seen a number of stores close over recent years.

One of the earliest closures in the town centre was of the tented market in September 2017.

The area hosted a number of independent shops that were forced to relocate or shut down.

Last year saw the peak of shops closing in Swindon.

The town centre alone lost 10 retailers in 2019 including big brands such as Argos, Starbucks, Thomas Cook and Morrisons at Regent Circus.

The losses didn't stop and moved into 2020 with coronavirus accelerating closures.

TopShop, Debenhams and Ann Summers all pulled down the shutters at the start of lockdown and did not reopen.
