Around 15 women returned for a another successful year of a cricket initiative to get more female participants in the sport at Ellesmere Cricket Club this week.

The Soft Ball Cricket, organised by Simon Appleyard, trained at the club, observing social distancing measures in bright sunshine as much of the cricket in the area returned.

Simon saysd the intitiave has been well received in the area, and he is hoping it will carry on into winter.

He said: "Women’s Soft Ball Cricket is aimed at girls and ladies of any age and any level of experience or ability, it’s about having fun.

"We ran a successful team last year and are finally back this season with a fantastic response and amazing feedback from those who attended.

"Sessions are running every Thursday 6.30-8pm at Ellesmere Cricket Club until the end of September. We hope to run winter sessions too indoors if Covid allows."
