Cumbria has been ranked among the top areas of the North West for the number of smokers in the area.

Copeland, Allerdale, Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness are all listed on Public Health England's North West District Smoking Prevalence map – and all rank in the 20 most prevalent smoking areas in the North West of England.

Almost 20% of the Carlisle population is believed to smoke, with 17.7% of the city considering themselves smokers.

Copeland and Allerdale are also listed, as 14.6% and 15.5% of the boroughs' populations smoke.

But Barrow-in-Furness ranks the highest on the map, being placed third after Blackpool – 23.4% – and Burnley – 21.5% – with 21.4% of the community believed to smoke.
