Between June 2019 and June 2020, 429 burglaries took place in the town- and some streets are harder hit than others.

Using information from the police database, we have identified the streets with the highest burglary rates between June 2019- June 2020.

The streets with the highest reported burglaries

Brownrigg Drive is clearly a crime hot spot in Carlisle- eight burglaries have been reported on the street in the last year and four of these incidents have taken place since January.

Whinrigg has also had a lot of burglary reports, receiving six in the last year alone.

There have also been four reports on burglary Rome Street, Eldon Drive, Wigton Road and Wingate Road.

Burglary trends

As you can see from the graph, burglary rates in Carlisle fluctuate greatly over time.

Burglary rates were at their highest in June 2019 when 48 burglaries took place. They also peaked around Christmas time, with 42 incidents in both November and January.

Predictably, burglary rates dropped when coronavirus lockdown was first introduced in April, dropping from 32 reports in March to 23 in May.

Were the burglars ever caught?

Out of the 428 burglaries reported,  only 20 are awaiting a court outcome and 30 are currently being investigated.

In fact 62% (269) burglaries in Carlisle are closed without a suspect ever being identified.

In 78 cases, police have been unable to prosecute the suspect.
