CUMBRIA Taekwondo has gotten its own Dojang thanks to a collective effort by its members.
Ryan Lightley, a 2nd degree black belt, was instrumental in acquiring the new training space for the club, which was established by Master Percy Gill back in the 1970s.
By investing a lot of their own personal money and resources to obtain the new space, members of the club now have their own Dojang. Ryan, a joiner, was able to undertake a lot of the work himself, supported by a loyal group of friends and family. The new premise is on Sunderland Industrial Estate Unit 11.
Ryan said: “We want this to be a place where kids and adults alike can go to be a part of something and share in their enjoyment of Taekwondo and feel that we already have a great team spirit which has been reflected in peoples motivation to help. For example, one of our members, Stuart Dixon has been a fundamental part of this project. We honestly could not have done it without him and the collaborative efforts of other member of the team.”
