A STUDY to improve parking, walking and cycling in Penrith says it's shortlisted a number of measures.

Begun in November last year The Penrith Parking and Movement Study had been jointly conducted by Cumbria County Council, Eden District Council and Penrith Town Council.

It seeks to understand the need for off-street car parks and assess the demand for on-street parking provision.

The eight proposed packages include improvements on: additional parking capacity; long stay parking in Penrith; town centre parking, on-street residential parking; Penrith town centre improvements; addressing nuisance parking; cycling and walking connectivity; and travel demand and technology improvements.

Delivery is subject to securing funding and it's hoped the study will provide necessary evidence for partner organisations in their bids to get it - however this is something that would be the subject of further agreement.

The parking study will be discussed at the following local authority meeting this month: Penrith Town Council Planning on Monday; Penrith Town Council Full Council on September 28; Eden District Council Executive Meeting on September 15.

Also at Cumbria County Council's Eden Local Committee on September 28.
