The future of Kendal’s tourism information centre is in doubt due to a lack of volunteers and less money being available.

The centre was discussed at this week’s Kendal Town Council, with councillors told it is likely the centre, known as ‘Fantastic Kendal’, will have to close down.

Councillor Stephen Coleman said: “Following dialogue with Fantastic Kendal, it is likely they will be closing down

“There are two aspects to this, one being heavy reliance on public funding and the other being problems associated with the volunteer base.

“Both of which have been affected by the pandemic.”

Councillor Giles Archibald was also concerned that another option to replace it hasn’t yet been put forward.

He said: “There might be an opportunity for a ‘bare bones’ tourist information facility within the space which will house the new reception area in the Town Hall. I will request that South Lakeland District Council consider this possibility.”
