A six-bedroom hotel for bridal parties has been approved at a farm in Cadmore End.

The farmhouse at Rackley’s Farm, on Marlow Road, will be converted into accommodation for wedding guests.

Buckinghamshire Council’s West Buckinghamshire Area Planning committee approved the plan on Tuesday, September 15.

Its primary function will be to cater for “the bridal party”, the bride and her entourage.

Councillor Ian McEnnis spoke on behalf of residents at the meeting, criticising the plan.

He said: “Residents are strongly opposed to this application. They feel this will increase the risk of late-night drinking and music.

“I am concerned how this application will affect the amenity of public space.

“This is a development by stealth. This has been going on three times now.”

While nearby resident Paul Nicholas said: “It will have a detrimental impact on the environment.

“There have been several applications, each increasing the scope. It is a significant development.

“Cadmore End already has a 16-bed hotel. 22 hotel rooms in an area of 50 homes is disproportionate.”

But the committee backed the plan with a majority of nine to one.

The plan was praised by councillor Graham Peart as “quality”.

He said the derelict site will be tidied up and “the benefits are much greater than the harm”.

Adding their support, councillor Marten Clarke said the plan would reduce the risk of inebriated drivers and aid employment in the area, while councillor Tony Lee said the farmhouse is a significant distance from any other properties in response to residents’ concerns.

Only councillor Sarfaraz Raja voted against the plan, saying it is “a massive extension”.

There will be six separate bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and dining area, as well as bathroom facilities. Up to 59 parking spaces are also mentioned.

Having demolished its existing rear extensions, the Sargent Charitable Trust, who own the site, will also build a new “storm porch” at the front of the property and a two-story extension with “two wings” at the back.

There will also be an “external bridal terrace” providing the bridal suite with a “private space overlooking the Chiltern Hills”.

Use of Rackley’s farmyard as a wedding venue was recently approved and development is underway. The farm itself is on the B482, on the outskirts of Cadmore End.
