A DARTS enthusiast with specialist event promotions experience is coming out of retirement to host another major darts exhibition.

Ben Nicholson, 27, from Moorclose, Workington, did his last darts event in June 2019, after running them for several years. But said he has missed the buzz so much that he has organised another tour for next year.

The ‘Legends of Darts’ tour will be coming to Workington on May 15 2021, with a return to their familiar venue - the Royal British Legion.

The event will feature Keith Deller, Dennis Priestley, former world number one Colin Lloyd and in a very rare exhibition tour Maverick Event Promotions have scooped John Part from Canada to come to the area.

Ben said: “It is a very rare for the three times world champion to come on exhibition tours, he is usually just over here for Sky - he is a top commentator and pundit on Sky Sports.”

They have also secured a fifth legend for the event, MC John Fowler - who is known for his appearances on the exhibitions and tournaments circuit around the country.

Ben said he realised how much he was missing the buzz of the events and the heartwarming support he has received from people has encouraged him to start up the tours once again.

He said people are going to come from as far as London and Glasgow for next year’s event and said the tour is important for the area.

He said: “It gives people something to look forward to and is really important for the area, clubs have lost a lot of revenue recently, and the players will be staying locally.”

The audience will have a chance to take on the champions in a darts match if they are selected and there will be a photo opportunity and sporting auctions.

The price will remain the same as it did six years ago, at £20 a ticket.

Ben added: “The response has been unbelievable, we sold out of sponsor tables within two days and there are only about 40 tickets left out of 150.”

He said the UK tour ‘Legends of darts’ has already received four bookings at Workington, Anna, Liverpool and Blackpool.
