THE family of a 17-year-old who was attacked on a night out are urging witnesses to come forward.

The young man was assaulted outside Maryport Rugby Club at about 11pm on Saturday, where he had been enjoying a night with friends.

He was picked up by his sister who said there was "blood pouring form his face".

She arrived at the scene to find four police vehicles in attendance and took her brother to hospital for treatment.

The victim's family told the News & Star they were heartbroken and urged anyone within information to get in touch with police to help with their investigation.

The family said: "We are heartbroken that a man could ever do this to our child and if anyone as any information that will help we would really appreciate it. We’d just like some justice."

Graham Hawley, force incident manager for Cumbria Police, said no arrests had been made but that it was still an on-going enquiry.

He said: "Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers. All the information that we get will be treated confidentially."

Mr Hawley said there were initially reports of two males fighting.
