A PLEA to help decide what Covid-safe events can be run has been issued by motoring enthusiasts.

Wigton Motor Club organises a range of events, catering for both modern and historic competitors.

As a member of the association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs (ANECCC), the Association of Scottish Car Clubs and Association of North West Car Clubs (ANWCC), this allows members to compete in events from the north of Scotland down to the Midlands, including virtually any event in northern England.

As a result of the pandemic the club has been forced to change its plans for the rest of the year.

However it has asked the members what they would like to see and do.

A spokesman for the club said: “The committee are wondering what, if any, events to run for the rest of the year.

“There seems no doubt that we are heading for another spike in cases. We also have to think of the PR aspect as well when many other activities are being curtailed.

“We would like to hear your views.

"The breakfast meets cannot take place due to the Rule of Six

“Classic tours, assuming the crews are from the same household, are OK and crews make their own food arrangements.

“For any competitive events, Autotests will need all those present to be masked and full virus protection measures to take place, as per our event last month.”

This announcement comes on the back of a successful Gretna social run which involved a number of vehicle owners driving out and enjoying their vehicles.

The club is continuing with as many events as possible and added: “The tours are essentially social events – you can do the driving bit but not the chat at the halts or finish.

“We are continuing with tours. We had one this week and have another on October 25, but who knows what the situation might be then?”

The club says it will keep its members up to date with plans.
