THERE is an 'urgent need' for Ulverston to be brought 'into line' with the tier two lockdown restrictions about to be introduced in Barrow, according to a former MP of the towns.
Barrow will tomorrow be placed under the 'high alert' rules, which prohibit separate households mixing socially indoors.
And Lord Walney, who was Barrow and Furness MP until December 2019, took to Twitter to say there was a risk nearby Ulverston could become a 'drinking oasis' for Barrow residents.
He felt this could make the South Lakes town a 'virus hotspot'.
He said: "With Lancashire going into Covid tier three and Barrow in tier two, there is surely an urgent need to bring next-door Ulverston into line.
"It’s already a draw for Barrovians at the weekend - this anomaly risks making it a drinking oasis and virus hotspot for the whole area."
