THE stretcher box along the Sty Head pass is to be replaced in the coming weeks ‘after many years of service’.
Stretcher boxes, generally located in mountainous areas, contain emergency rescue equipment.
A spokesman for Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said the box had been at Sty Head, which runs between Scafell Pike and Great Gable, since 1938.
The original stretcher box was destroyed by a storm in the late-1940s.
The box on the pole on the left of the first photo contained items such as bandages.
