Levens Hall to benefit from the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage

Levens Hall is one of hundreds of heritage organisations across the country set to receive a financial lifeline from the government, thanks to the £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.

The manor house, alongside 445 other organisations, will receive a share of £103million to help restart crucial reconstruction work and maintenance on cherished heritage sites, keeping venues open and supporting those working in the sector.

Richard Bagot, owner of Levens Hall said: “Receiving financial assistance from the government’s Cultural Recovery Fund for Heritage will assist us greatly in creating a more sustainable business for the future in these uncertain times, support us in our extensive programme of restoration and allow us to continue to be a significant tourist destination within Cumbria.

“Levens Kitchen now forms a crucial part of Levens Hall’s overall income and the grant will allow us to extend both the 2020 season and to open the restaurant and shop for seven days a week, instead of the current five days. In turn, this will be of enormous benefit to the local community and our suppliers, as well as to visitors to the Lake District, whilst providing essential employment opportunities in this rural location.”

The money from the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage and the Heritage Stimulus Fund has been funded by the Government and administered by Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The scheme is designed to secure the future of Britain’s museums, galleries, theatres, independent cinemas, heritage sites and music venues with emergency grants and loans.
