Remembrance Sunday is going to be different this year due to Covid-19.

Kendal Town Council and the Kendal Branch of the Royal British Legion have adapted their plans so that the people of Kendal can mark this important occasion in a safe way.

A town council spokesman said: "The main message we would like to convey to those who would normally come into town is to please remember at home instead.

"This can be done by watching the national Remembrance Service on television and observing the Two Minute Silence in your home or on the doorstep at 11am.

"Kendal Town Council will post Remembrance footage and photos from Kendal on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.

"Wreath laying can still take place at the War Memorial in the Market Square.

"People are invited to do this throughout the day rather than all gathering at a specific time.

"We do ask that the times of 10am and 11am are avoided, that there is no gathering of more than six people and that wreath laying is done in a socially distanced way."

Because of the restrictions on gathering in response to the Pandemic, the Royal British Legion has requested that all parades are cancelled this year.

There will still be a Remembrance Service at Kendal Parish Church and places will be limited.

Attendees have been asked to arrive between 10.15am and 10.30am, allowing time for track and trace details to be taken and for each person to be shown to their seat. Mask should be worn.

On November 11, the Mayor of Kendal Alvin Finch will lay a wreath at the Market Place Memorial on behalf of the people of Kendal followed by a lone bugler sounding the Last Post, and the 2 minute silence.

Cllr Finch said: "Remembrance this year is just as important as ever, even though we cannot gather together. I hope we will all remember and reflect in our own, deeply personal way."
