MOUNTAIN rescuers were called after a pair of walkers became lost while ascending Scafell Pike from Wasdale Head.
The walkers eventually found the summit in the dark before making their way to one of the stone shelters nearby.
They were reported to be 'cold, tired and unsure how to get back down'.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT) was notified of the incident at around 10pm on Friday.
A WMRT spokesman said: "The team leader spoke to the party over the phone and explained how to find the correct path, whilst a small team of rescuers was mobilised to meet them with spare lights etc.
"By now their torch batteries were failing, leaving them with just their mobile phones, for which they had a power bank."
The spokesman said 'phone find' technology was used to track their progress.
He said the walkers were soon met by mountain rescuers and escorted back to the valley.
