A ROAD in Dalton with a history of flooding was made impassable yesterday due to a high volume of water on the road.

Greystone Lane near Greenhills Pond, commonly known as Parker’s Pond, was covered in water leaving no way through yesterday and the day before.

Drivers were warned to avoid the area at all costs.

The area in question is due to be treated to prevent flooding in the area following the approval of a planning application for 36 new homes in the area back in March.

The developers made a number of amendments to the plans after they were first granted approval last year by Barrow Borough Council.

Plans say that drainage work is due to take place as the first phase of development commences.

Shaun Blezard, councillor for Dalton South, said: "Around the Parker's Pond area is where the flooding issues are.

"With the housing development application approval they said they would do some work on flood prevention.

"That part of the road has been flooding for years.

"I voted against the housing development application because of this at first. Then the extra conditions associated with flooding were put in place.

"This is where the entrance and exit to the estate would be, it would be a disaster if it flooded and people would be stuck there."

According to the planning documents, the measures to be implemented by the developers will be a drainage basin as well as regular maintenance of vegetation in the area and reseeding of the vegetation with poor growth in order to prevent future flooding.
