RESIDENTS will have the opportunity to give feedback and view plans for the transformation of Kendal’s former Porsche dealership through an online exhibition.

McCarthy and Stone, who develop and manage retirement communities, is showcasing its redevelopment proposals for the Porsche Centre on Shap Road.

The local community has been encouraged by McCarthy and Stone, who are engaging in a pre-application consultation programme, to provide feedback at the virtual public exhibition which will be available until December 3, 2020.

The online exhibition will also include a live chat session on November 26 between 1pm and 5pm, where people will be able to speak directly with a member of the project team.

Proposals include the erection of 55 retirement living apartments, specially designed to meet the needs of people in later life and apartments will have on-site parking and an ‘attractive’ landscaped courtyard.

Additionally, the development will feature communal facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, mobility scooter charging and storage room, guest suite and lift access to all floors.

The company expressed its interest in the site earlier this month and said they would progress the application after seeking feedback from the public, as well as local representatives.

Ian Wilkins, divisional managing director north for McCarthy and Stone said: “Our plans provide a fantastic opportunity to deliver much-needed Retirement Living accommodation on a brownfield site.

“The site is ideally located for residents to access local shops and services with the nearby train station providing transport links across the wider region.”

“We’re proposing a sensitive design that respects the historic character of the local area. We want to hear local views before we finalise our planning application. I’d encourage people to go online and view the virtual exhibition where they’ll be able to complete our online feedback form.”

Anyone who is unable to view the plans online but would like further information can call McCarthy and Stone’s freephone information line on 0800 298 7040.
