A BARROW care home has been praised after an inspection to see if they are complying with covid rules.

Ostley House on Abbey Road, ran by Barrow and Districts Society for the Blind, were subjected to the unannounced inspection on November 2.

In a report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) a number of examples of good practise were listed.

It was found that the home was supporting people infected with covid-19, and that the manager had followed guidance to manage the outbreak, including having separate staff teams supporting people who had a positive or negative covid-19 test result.

Staff were trained in infection prevention and control and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safely and the provider had ensured sufficient quantities of PPE were available.

Other examples were noted such as rearranging communal areas to support social distancing, following practises for safe admissions of new arrivals and regular testing for staff and people living in the home.

Praising the hard-working staff, the report detailed: "There was a well-established, experienced staff team working in the home. The staff had been responsive to the challenges caused by the pandemic and worked outside of their normal roles, where required, to maintain a safe environment for people.

"The provider had acknowledged the staff team's work during the pandemic and given the staff a bonus in recognition of their work.

"We were assured the service was following safe infection prevention and control procedures to keep people safe."
