NATIONAL radio listeners gave their recommendations for where a world-famous singer should explore next in the Lakes- with one saying she should conquer a mountain or two.

The tips came after singer-songwriter Taylor Swift described the Lake District in her new concert film, which has been released on streaming app Disney+.

The Westmorland Gazette: File photo dated 27/08/19 of Taylor Swift, who has confirmed her boyfriend Joe Alwyn co-wrote two songs on her latest album. PA Photo. Issue date: Wednesday November 25, 2020. Swift, 30, surprised fans in July this year when she announced the release of h

During the film she plays various songs from her latest album Folklore and explains the story behind each single, including bonus track ‘The Lakes’.

She said: “It’s in England and it’s in the 19th century where you had lots of poets like William Wordsworth and John Keats who would spend a lot of time there and I remembered when we went I thought I could see this, you live in a cottage and you’ve got wisteria going up the outside of it and wow.”

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James asked listeners from the Lakes whether they agreed with what Swift had said about the area and where she should go next.

The Westmorland Gazette:

Listener Emma, who has lived in the Lake District for more than 20 years, said: “Best place in the world to live.

“She is pretty spot on. We do have lots of lovely cottages with wisteria on but not all of us have wisteria.

“And she was spot on with Wordsworth but she forgot about our other beautiful towns like Bowness, Windermere and Kendal.”

Greg added: “Also big up Grasmere, Grasmere didn’t get a shout out.”

Emma thought the popstar should conquer some mountains next time as well.

“She needs to get a lake cruise across the lake,” she said.

“And she needs to climb Helvellyn and Scafell, she needs to be up in the hills.”

The Westmorland Gazette:

Fellow listener Bradley thought Swift should pay a visit to Walney Island.

“Walney Island and Barrow-in-Furness, where the Lakes meet the sea,” he said.

“There’s nowhere else to be trust me.”

When asked about any pubs the star should pop into, Bradley added: “Get yourself in the Castle at North Scale, get the Cajun chicken baguette. She won’t be sorry.”
