A CUMBRIAN pub has been recognised for its delicious locally sourced food.

The Punch Bowl Inn, Crosthwaite, has been named The Good Pub Guide’s Country Dining Pub in Cumbria 2021.

A spokesman for The Punchbowl, said: “Surrounded by glorious walks our guests love to return to a roaring log fire, as we are often described as a ‘home away from home’.

“Known best for our delicious Twice Baked Lancashire Cheese Soufflé, we strive to grow and source as much local produce as possible.

“Our indulgent menu is shaped by seasonal offerings from The Punch Bowl farm, including the damsons that run alongside our famous Lemon Tart.

“Alongside all local business we have worked hard to keep our guests and staff safe during the ongoing pandemic.”

The business quickly installed a LumiBio anti-pathogen air conditioning system and has ensured hand sanitiser is stationed around the pub for guests to use.

The spokesman added: “Despite the widespread difficulties we have all faced this past year, we have taken such pleasure in continuing to greet returning guests and holding intimate weddings for couples, under the relevant government guidelines, who have filled our year with the normal pleasures of running The Punch Bowl.”

The Inn has said it is thrilled to receive the award from The Good Pub Guide, especially after what has proved to be a challenging year for the hospitality industry.

“With the recent pandemic, this has been an incredibly tough year for everyone, and it’s lovely to be able to celebrate this achievement with our guests, and of course our wonderful and worthy team,” continued the spokesman.

The Punch Bowl Inn’s owner, Richard Rose said: “In these extraordinary circumstances it’s humbling to receive such an award, which pays homage to the hardworking commitment of the team over the past year.”
